The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum & Education center kicks off its fifth season of the fan-favorite “Beyond the Book” Book Club.

Beyond the Book club offers a new approach to book discussion groups. Not only will members discuss different literary works, but they will also have the opportunity to view historical objects from the museum’s collection.

Book clubbers will get to read historical texts and view artifacts close-up. All of these artifacts will be local to Long Island’s maritime history.

The discussion group combines literature with history and community engagement for a unique experience.

Light snacks and drinks will be available to book clubbers. Themed snacks and desserts, like Jaws-themed cupcakes, are provided by the museum. Free coffee will be available as well, courtesy of the Huntington Village Starbucks.

This year, the museum is partnering with the Cold Spring Harbor Library. It continues to collaborate with the Huntington Public Library and the South Huntington Public Library.

“We’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Cold Spring Harbor Library which, along with our ongoing collaborations with Huntington Public Library and South Huntington Public Library, enables us to reach an even broader audience and provide a truly unique cultural experience,” said Brenna McCormick-Thompson, Curator of Education at the museum.
