The drive, which concludes July 24, benefits the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.
Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) thanks the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Syosset communities for their generous support of the Scott Martella “Supply our Students Drive” in support of the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.
During recent visits to the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Syosset Public Libraries, Deputy Minority Leader Drucker was updated on the impressive proceeds of the drive so far, which is named in honor of Scott Martella, a former Smithtown School Board Trustee who made history when he was elected at age 22 and later became a top aide to former Governor Andrew Cuomo and former Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. Martella was tragically killed in an August 2016 car crash on the Long Island Expressway. Since his untimely death, there have been numerous charitable drives, including the “Supply our Students Drive,” in recognition of his commitment to improving the lives of others.
Anyone interested in donating has until Wednesday, July 24 to drop off their contribution during regular business hours at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, the Syosset Public Library, or Always Orthodontics in Syosset. Sought-after school supplies include but are not limited to backpacks, folders, spiral and marble notebooks, looseleaf paper, binders, tabbed subject dividers, pencil cases and sharpeners, pens, pencils (colored and No. 2), highlighters, erasers, markers, glue sticks, lunchboxes, index cards, rulers, scissors, and calculators.
“I am absolutely thrilled to see so much support for such a worthwhile endeavor that will ensure deserving local students have a great start to the 2024-25 school year,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “However, it’s not quite time to put your pencils down quite yet because there’s still time to donate and honor Scott Martella’s advocacy for public education. I encourage anyone who has not done so already to visit Always Orthodontics, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library or the Syosset Public Library and make a difference in a child’s life today!”
