Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt & Craft
ALL DAY (Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium) From August 1-4, the aquarium is hosting a Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt to find native and magical creatures. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Workshop
1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (The Whaling Museum & Education Center in Cold Spring Harbor) The Whaling Museum is celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday with a Fantastic Beasts-inspired workshop. Children will explore the legends surrounding the mythic creatures in Harry Potter and create their own dragon eggs with gilded shells. Admission is $10 a participant, $5 for members. 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (68 Berry Hill Road, Syosset) Syosset’s new farmer’s market is open every Saturday from May through October. Local companies attend, and residents can buy local products and learn about their community’s food system. National Night Out
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Mid Island JCC, 45 Manettto Hill Road in Plainview) The Nassau County Police Department will host a “Community Against Crime” event at the Mid Island JCC. There will be refreshments, music and fun for the whole family. Local government, police officers, first responders and community leaders will be in attendance, including Legislator Arnold Drucker. There will be educational and fun events, as well as tablings and giveaways.

10:15 a.m. (Syosset Public Library) The library will host an in-person arts and crafts class that is great for beginners. Join the program to create a mosaic-tiled spoon rest for your kitchen. The Jericho Public Library will be hosting a Tiny Art Show with your artwork! This is open to all! Visit the Reference Desk (for adults and teens) and the Children’s Desk (for families) to pick up a Tiny Art Show Kit. Next, create your masterpiece using the tools provided and return your finished art to the library by Monday, August 12. During the month of September, your artwork will be displayed in the library for the community to see! All artwork will be returned to you after it is on display.
