A man shot his dog to death at Christopher Morley Park in North Hills after the dog began to attack him on July 18, the Nassau County Police Department said.
According to a news bulletin from the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD), the man was walking his Belgium Dutch Shepherd in the park at 2:35 p.m. when the dog became violent and began to “viciously attack” its owner. In response, the man fired one round at the dog who later succumbed to the gunshot. At the time of the incident, the dog was off of his leash.
The male victim was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for the lacerations he received on his left arm and left leg. The police report no other injuries from this event.
The police say the male was licensed to own the pistol he used to shoot the dog. The victim’s name, town of residence, and type of pistol have not been publicly released as of July 22. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
