Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School’s flag football wins state competition

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School girls’ flag football team won the first-ever New York State Public High School Sports Association Division 1 Flag Football Championship on June 2 in Cortland, beating Scarsdale High School. 

This accomplishment marks the first state title that the school has earned since 1983.

Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) and state Sen. Steve Rhoads (R) joined the leaders of the Plainview Old-Bethpage School District to acknowledge the young athletes’ success, according to a press release from Drucker’s office.

“Powered by their talent, drive and determination, these outstanding young athletes are blazing their own trail in the sports world and bringing tremendous pride to the Plainview-Old Bethpage community,” he said. “It was a pleasure to honor these accomplished young ladies for their impressive achievement and wish them tremendous success in all of their future endeavors.”

According to the NYSPHSSA website, the Plainview-Old Bethpage team beat Scarsdale High School 19-7 in the 2024 NYSPHSSA Flag Football Championship. This win was not the team’s only accomplishment this season. Earlier this season, the team achieved their second consecutive Long Island Class A Championship.
