The Shelter Rock Jewish Center, located on Shelter Rock Road In Roslyn, was the scene of a hate crime last week.

On Sept. 28, the synagogue erected a banner on the front of the property stating, “We Stand With Israel” and “Bring Them Home Now.” When the center’s custodian arrived early Saturday morning, he saw that red paint splashed across the banner, posts, and grass in front of the sign.

The Nassau County Police were called and responded quickly. They classified the incident as a hate crime.

“I have been in touch with the 3rd Precinct. I have the utmost confidence in our law enforcement that they are working hard to find those that committed this act of hate, and bring them to justice,” state Assembly Member Gina Sillitti said. “I also spoke to the President of the Shelter Rock Jewish Center to offer my support and share my disgust at what happened.”

The crime occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning, between 9:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.

If anyone has any information about the perpetrators of this crime, contact the Nassau County Police Department.

A gathering of support is being planned on Sept. 8 at 11:15 a.m. at the Shelter Rock Jewish Center.
