On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Syosset Public Library will collect unwanted and/or expired prescriptions that residents wish to dispose of. This includes medications, patches, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, drug samples and pet medications.
The event will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The drop-off will be under the supervision of Nassau County Police Department Second Precinct officers.
Residents will not be allowed to dispose of the following: needles/sharps, aerosol cans, thermometers, ointments (liquid or lotion), hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, biohazardous materials and/or medications from business.
The drop-off is held in partnership with Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview).
“Through our ongoing partnership with the Second Precinct, my office’s Shed the Meds events provide Nassau residents with convenient opportunities to clear their medicine cabinets in a way that protects the environment and prevents drug abuse and misuse in our community,” Drucker said in a press release.
Drucker encourages all residents to dispose of their expired medications safely at the event.
“If you have unwanted or expired medicine to dispose of, I strongly encourage you to join us on Sept. 24 and avail yourself of this vital service,” he said.
