After two years of construction and over $8 million spent, Plainedge Public Schools has opened the Plainedge Fitness Center, a facility free for residents.

Work began on the facility and its adjoining softball field in 2022 and was completed earlier this month.

The facility, located at 241 Wyngate Drive in North Massapequa, boasts two floors and more than 12,000 square feet, including a weight training room, cardio training space, a yoga/ dance/aerobic studio, wrestling/fitness room, and a fitness corridor for upper body strength training and virtual training.

“We pride ourselves on offering a state-of-the-art facility, and we’re happy that our community members are able to reap the benefits of this facility,” said a representative of Plainedge Public Schools.

The center is only open to Plainedge residents, who must apply for a membership.

The membership is totally free, said Catherine Honeyman, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at Plainedge. “It’s been amazing to offer something so state-of-the-art to residents, something better than a Planet Fitness or local gym, that they don’t have to pay for.”

Once you are approved for your membership, you will be able to book classes; 50-minute reservations in our Fitness Center that will allow you to work out with the Echelon mirrors — which allow members to select a workout from a library of offerings and track fitness metrics like heart rate, calories burned, and workout progress — cardio equipment, and strength training machines.

Residents can register for membership by visitng https://www.plainedgeschools.org/2024/09/04/welcome-to-the-plainedge-fitness-center/
