Art in the Park returned to the Village Green in Farmingdale on Sunday for the 13th year as visitors strolled the sidewalks to peruse the work of 30 artists.
“I thought of all the artists locally who don’t have the opportunity to show their work,” said Farmingdale Cultural Arts Committee Member Frances Rotundo, who created the event. “And I thought, why not have Art in the Park and invite the locals? And now a lot of people come from all over Long Island. It’s such a lovely day. We get a lot of artists who come back year after year.”
Elaine Faith Thompson, who showcased her newest ‘Presidential Series’ alongside some of her best sellers, said the event was important to her.
“I’ve been showcasing at Art in the Park for years,” she said. “It’s really enjoyable to show my latest work and talk about [my pieces].”
Another artist, Helen Malichek, was supported at her booth by her daughter Francine.
“Help my mom fulfill her dream of being an artist,” Francine Malichek announced to passersby. Helen sold rustic wood-block pumpkins alongside her paintings.
The event also featured local vendors, including The Perfect Pickle and Afro Gato Coffee, who sold snacks, drinks, and other goods.
Rotundo said she was pleased by the turnout and hopes to continue Art in the Park for more years to come.
“I just feel that culture is so important. We don’t want to lose that,” she said.
Rotundo thanked the Village of Farmingdale for its support and cooperation, as it has always done in years past.
“The village has always been cooperative. They’ve helped me tremendously,” she said.
