The wet weather did nothing to stop the Wantagh Warriors, who scored a dominating win during the high school’s homecoming on Sept. 28.
Homecoming started with a parade up Wantagh Ave. Community members lined the streets with open umbrellas to support the black and gold.
Eddie Correa-Baez and Kaitlin Dillon were crowned the homecoming king and queens. The runners-up were Stephen Albano, Michael Muscarnera, Isabelle Byrne, and Ava Padula.
The seniors were announced as the board game-themed float competition winners with their Candyland design.
The parade was led by local veterans and the Wantagh Fire Department and included the Board of Education and administrators, marching band, cheerleaders, class floats, homecoming court, Miss Wantagh court, parent organizations, and local youth groups.
Brett Meyer, who retired two years ago after 37 years as the district’s head of maintenance, was the grand marshal.
Announcer extraordinaire Bill Bogatz informed the crowd that in the 71 years of Wantagh football, it was their first-ever meeting against Oyster Bay.
Following the national anthem sung by senior Lorenzo Hilliard, the Warriors showed why they are undefeated this year.
The 49-0 victory over the Oyster Bay Baymen featured four first-quarter touchdowns, including one on the opening kickoff. It could not have gone better for the home team.
