The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District has dedicated the past couple of months to preparing the buildings for welcoming students into renovated spaces for the 2024 to 2025 school year.

All four school buildings now have outdoor learning spaces, equipped with new benches, tables and overhead coverage with the addition of Wi-Fi to these spaces underway.

Each building also installed, or are in the process of installing, outdoor canopies over the pre-K playgrounds. Now, all playgrounds will have overhead coverage while students are playing outdoors. Irrigation systems were either replaced or added at all four buildings, as well.

At Garden City Park School, the first and third floor corridors received new flooring and stair tread replacements. At New Hyde Park Road School, there is new carpeting in the lobby and auditorium. At both Hillside Grade School and Manor Oaks School, the hallways were painted in their respective school colors.

“These projects focused on enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the
facilities,” Fredrick Metzger, director of facilities, said in a press release. “By incorporating outdoor learning spaces and refreshing interiors with new flooring and painting, you’re fostering a sense of pride and providing versatile environments for learning.”
