Northwell Health appointed Kevin Holcomb as chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park and The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Uniondale.
In his position as chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore University Hospital, LIJ and the School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Holcomb will lead the clinical care, research and education efforts for the obstetrics and gynecology department.

Before joining Northwell, he served as vice chair of gynecology, professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology and associate dean of admissions at Weill Cornell Medical College. Prior, he was the director of gynecologic oncology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the same institution.
“My appointment at Northwell Health is an amazing opportunity to significantly impact the wellbeing of women in New York, including those in the community that raised me,” Holcomb, a Queens native, said in a press release. “I’m committed to working with the obstetrics and gynecology faculty toward the development of a world-class department that advances women’s health through compassionate clinical care, innovative research, and transformative education.”
Holcomb earned a Bachelor of Arts in the College Scholar Program at Cornell University and his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital. Holcomb has been widely published, including in The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, and Nature.
“One of our missions is the advancement of quality women’s health services, which I am confident Dr. Holcomb’s leadership will provide,” John D’Angelo, senior vice president and regional executive director of Northwell’s central region, said in a press release. “His relentless dedication to women’s health and to the advancement of cutting-edge research benefitting women will bring Northwell to new heights.”
“As a renown gynecologic oncologist and academic leader, we are thrilled to have Dr. Holcomb join us as our department chair at North Shore /LIJ and as our academic chair,” Michael Nimaroff, senior vice president and executive director of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwell Health, said in a press release. “Dr. Holcomb will advance our program to new heights.”
Holcomb is a member of the New York Gynecologic Society, New York Obstetrical Society and Society of Gynecologic Oncology. He is a gynecologic cancer panelist for the Global Cancer Institute and reviewer for several medical journals, including Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a member of the New York City Department of Health’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
“I’m drawn to Northwell’s dedication to eradicating the unacceptable disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality currently found in the United States,” Holcomb said in a press release. “The diverse patient populations of North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center offer a unique opportunity to develop effective interventions that can be disseminated widely.”
