Herricks Community Service Center celebrates anniversary

On Sept. 24, the Herricks Senior Community Service Center celebrated its 44th anniversary with a party.

At the party, the staff and members of the center extend a “thank you” to the Herricks Community Fund co-presidents Iona Davis and Paul Ehrbar and the board members for their continued support.

“Thank you to the Herricks UFSD Superintendent Tony Sinanis, Assistant Superintendent Lisa Rutkoske and staff for their support and for providing us the kitchen and cafeteria space in the community center,” stated in a press release.

Also in attendance at the party was Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Town Council Member Christine Liu and state Assemby Member Gina Silliti. Also, the Long Island Harmonizers performed.

The program is open to Nassau County senior residents from 60 and up. It’s open on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center offers an environment to nourish each senior’s body, mind and spirt through line dancing, exercise for arthritis, aerobics, yoga, tai chi, ceramics and painting.

The suggested donation for each class is $2. The suggested donation for a hot or cold lunch is $3. Four to five days advanced registration is recommended for lunch.

Transportation is available from Albertson, East Williston, Williston Park, Garden City Park, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Searingtown and Roslyn for the suggested round trip donation of $2.

This program is made possible through the support of the Herricks Community Fund and funding from Nassau County Department of Human Services, the New York State Office for the Aging, the U.S. Administration on Aging and the Town of North Hempstead.
