The $5 million Seaman Road Station Rehabilitation Project is now complete. The City of Glen Cove said the project will enhance efficiency and reliability in the city’s water supply.

“This project represents a critical advancement toward achieving a more autonomous and sustainable water supply for Glen Cove,” the city said.

The site was closed in 2010 due to contamination. The city said it began to secure funding in 2019.

The city received grants from the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act, Environmental Facilities Corporation and Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

State Assembly member Charles Lavine secured and utilized a $250,000 DSNAY grant for the project.

“We would like to thank Assemblyman Charles Lavine for securing the $250,000 grant, as well as our Public Works and Water Departments for expertly managing the project,” city officials said.

Lavine said a lot of money was needed to “address and mitigate” the site’s issues.

Lavine said on this project, he worked with both Democrats and Republicans.

Lavine began the grant application process with Mayor Timothy Tenke in 2018, he said. The process is now completed with Mayor Pam Panzenbeck.

His goal is to “benefit our citizens,” he said. Lavine said this project should not be made politicized by parties.

The grant was used to build a new structure and employ new machinery that “cleanses and purifies our water,” Lavine said.

He said the site is now operating. This progress is part of an effort to make the city autonomous over its water supply.

The goal is to “provide our own water,” Lavine said.

“The upgrades will improve the quality and reliability of our drinking water, ensuring that residents have access to safe and clean water,” the city said.

City officials said enhancements to the site will help reduce future risks and provide residents with safe and clean water.

Officials said the city aims to continue improvements to the water system.

“While this grant is a great step forward, we recognize that we need millions more dollars to fully upgrade our water system here in Glen Cove,” the city said. “We appreciate all the support we can get to ensure our residents have access to clean, safe water.”
