Readers Write: Keiserman a better bet for state Senate

For residents of the 7th New York state Senate District, Kim Keiserman is the clear choice this Election Day.

Our incumbent may claim to be experienced but he can point to little in his current or previous State Senate terms to bolster that claim.

Jack Martins came to the state Senate in 2010 with the Tea Party and has a record in his first stint there voting for tax cuts for the super wealthy and fare hikes for the LIRR in a lockstep vote with the GOP to keep upstate NY happy, and a continuing record of voting against reproductive rights.

Kim Keiserman is not a career politician, and instead has deep community roots and a firm grasp of the issues facing this district with a presence here our incumbent has not had – at least until election season.

Keiserman has rightly earned a pile of endorsements, including Everytown for Gun Safety, the NYS AFL-CIO, and the Sierra Club.  She will take the dedication and passion she has shown here on LI to fight for us in Albany.  I’ve worked alongside her and seen her talents firsthand.

Revealingly, Martins and his team have made baseless claims in despicable mailers and social media posts.

Some feature Keiserman tinted green (yes, like a witch – the misogyny is not subtle) and are the epitome of dirty politics, even adopting verbatim Trumpy trash talk.  His endorsement – or at least tacit approval – of these nasty attacks shows that a vote for Martins is a vote for the extreme NYS GOP, no matter how he tries to clothe himself as a moderate –  or as a nice guy.

Martins ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress twice and for Nassau County Executive once- does the district want to give him his consolation prize again?

For District 7, Keiserman is the better bet.
