Top three issues:
Affordability: Murphy said he is committed to making Long Island more affordable by addressing the housing crisis. He advocates for capping private equity’s purchase of single-family homes, which he argues is driving up housing prices and making it difficult for families to afford a home. He said he plans to expand the state’s child care tax credit by raising the income threshold, ensuring that more working families can benefit from much-needed financial relief.
Public Safety: Murphy said he believes in supporting law enforcement with the necessary resources to keep our communities safe. Murphy said he will push for data-driven policies that reduce crime and foster trust between law enforcement and residents. His approach focuses on enhancing police training, improving response times, and addressing issues such as mental health in policing, ensuring that officers can handle crises effectively while protecting public safety.
Healthcare Reform: Murphy said he is a fierce advocate for healthcare reform. He proposes a comprehensive “Bill of Rights” for both patients and doctors, aimed at holding medical insurance companies accountable. He accuses these companies of prioritizing profits by dominating doctor’s offices and exploiting both patients and healthcare providers.
By cracking down on these practices, Murphy said he hopes to protect patient care, empower doctors, and ensure a more equitable healthcare system for all New Yorkers.
