Top three issues:
Affordability: The high cost of living on Long Island is a significant burden for many families, particularly with skyrocketing insurance costs.
As a member of the Assembly’s Insurance Committee, Blumencranz is spearheading a five-point plan to lower insurance rates across the board, focusing on storm resiliency for coastal homes. Blumencranz is working on creating a state-backed reinsurance fund to alleviate pressures on homeowners.
Additionally, he recognizes the growing need for improved access to childcare. The inconsistent pre-kindergarten enrollment system leaves many parents without guaranteed seats for their children, and he is advocating for a streamlined process that allows schools to budget effectively while offering incentives to new parents. Addressing grocery price discrepancies is also crucial and will be convening a roundtable discussion to craft solutions to this complex problem.
Transparency and governmental efficiency are integral to improving affordability. Assemblyman Blumencranz plans to create a “Sunshine Commission” to identify inefficiencies in state spending. By ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively and responsibly, our State can reduce waste and direct more resources toward essential services, helping families thrive without unnecessary financial strain.
Mental Health: The mental health crisis is escalating in both schools and our broader community, and we must take action now. Assemblyman Blumencranz is particularly concerned about the proliferation of harmful uses of artificial intelligence, including deep-fakes, which pose serious risks for educators and families. We must secure funding for mental health resources to tackle these emerging issues before they escalate further.
Public Safety: While Nassau County is one of the safest in the nation, we cannot afford to be complacent. Assemblyman Blumencranz introduced legislation aimed at tackling home invasions, addressing the use of Wi-Fi signal jammers that hinder law enforcement. Additionally, Blumencranz supports expanding license plate reader systems throughout the county to enhance intelligence-led policing. Ensuring the safety and security of our communities is a top priority.
