Siela Bynoe bio:
Siela Bynoe, 57, and Nassau County legislator of District 2, is a first-generation American, a breast cancer survivor, a housing and education advocate and a homeowner in Westbury.

A 49-year resident of Long Island, she has deep roots in the 6th Senate District and a first-hand understanding of the community’s needs. Raised by a single mother, Bynoe learned the lessons of leadership through hard work and how to give back to her community.

After graduating from Westbury High School, Bynoe earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Nassau County Community College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hofstra University. Guided by the life lessons of her formative years, Bynoe embarked upon an extensive career in the public, not-for-profit and private sectors.

Bynoe’s was first elected to the Nassau County Legislature. In her fifth term,she is currently serving as the alternate deputy minority leader.

Party affiliation: Democrat

District includes: portions of the town of Hempstead including the villages of Hempstead and Garden City, the hamlets of Levittown, East Meadow; and stretches into southern Oyster Bay, including the hamlets of Plainedge and Bethpage.

Healthcare:
Bynoe said that if elected, she would push for increased access to health care while protecting women’s rights and reducing maternal mortality rates.

Education:
Bynoe said she would work to fully fund Long Island’s public schools and expand after-school programming and career training opportunities.

Law Enforcement:
Bynoe said she also would support the expansion of programs that deepen trust between law enforcement and communities.
