Hicksville High School has announced the top two students for the Class of 2025: valedictorian Kailash Thayavally and salutatorian Mandeep Kaur.
Thayavally is a member of several honor societies, including the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and Science National Honor Society.
He is the vice president of the school’s Science National Honor Society, president of the Science Olympiad and an avid member of the robotics team.
Outside of school, he has shadowed physicians, researched multiple sclerosis and cofounded a nonprofit organization based on teaching STEM to students called NextGenInspires.
Kaur is active in several societies, holding officer positions such as tech chair of the Thespian Honor Society, corresponding secretary of the National Honor Society and secretary of the National English Honor Society. She is also a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society.
Additionally, Kaur is involved in numerous school clubs, including the International Outreach Club, FBLA and Astronomy Club. For the last four years, she has been the Class of 2025 treasurer.
Among many extracurricular activities, she volunteers every Sunday at her Community Religious Center and works with students in grades 3-9 at a local tutoring center.
Both students have been touted by Hicksville High School’s administration as being shining examples of the Hicksville student body, who have contributed significantly both inside and outside of their school community.
