The Syosset Farmer’s Market closed its debut season with a spooky success. The “Spooktacular” featured pumpkin carving, live music, trick or treating and dancing.

“It’s the first season,” said owner and manager Excelina Denlea. “And we had a great, great response.”

The market opened in May and closed on the last weekend of October. This is the first year the Syosset community has its own farmer’s market.

Denlea said this year, “the community is loving it.”

The Halloween Spooktacular offered free, family-friendly events.

Every customer received a pumpkin to paint and decorate and each vendor came prepared with candy for trick or treating, Denlea said. There was a dog costume contest as well.

Denlea said a band from the Syosset iSchool of Music & Art and salsa dancers from Syosset’s Dance with Us performed.

Denlea said the first season has been a success.

“It’s hard work, but it paying off,” Denlea said.

After just one season, the market has been nominated for the Best Farmer’s Market from the Bethpage Federal Credit Union’s Best of Long Island awards.

“Just to be nominated for us is huge, being that we’re a new market,” Denlea said.

Voting is open from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15. Voting is done online at www.bestoflongisland.com

“It’s a small market compared to other markets that have been around for years,” Denlea said. “So it’s been an honor to be nominated.”

The Syosset Farmer’s Market will resume its weekly schedule on May 10, 2025. Denlea said the season will kick off with a Mother’s Day special event.

“We are looking forward to the next season,” she said.
