Temple Beth-El, the home of intellectual Judaism on Long Island, will offer fascinating events with Scholars-in-Residence Rabbis Tara and Meir Feldman on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23.
All are welcome at the Erev Shabbat Community Dinner prepared by Temple Beth-El’s in-house caterer, W Kosher Events, on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
At the 7 p.m. Erev Shabbat service, the Rabbis Emeriti will discuss Reclaiming Zionism—the Word and the Wonder, followed by an Oneg Shabbat.
“The word ‘Zionism’ has been twisted and poisoned, becoming our enemies’ most potent and powerful weapon,” said the rabbis, who currently live in Israel. “With honesty about our own experiences, questions and convictions, the moment is now for us, as Jews, wherever we may live, to reclaim the ‘Z word’ as a source of healing, inspiration, purpose and hope.”
The Rabbis Feldman will lead Torah Study, focusing on “The Voice Is the Voice of Jacob”: Deception and Truth, Lifting the Mask, on Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. Shabbat service and Kiddush brunch prepared by Brotherhood.
Temple Beth-El’s guest speakers will counter anti-Israel slogans with the truths at the core of our history and our identity as Jews and as Israelis. This will go beyond anti-Israel rallies and focus on us all: the learning we can take on, the conversations we can embrace, the “voice” that each of us can raise.
The weekend will conclude with Entwining Our Multiple Wicks: A Havdalah Yoga practice with Rabbi Tara and Sharon Epstein, authors of “Into a Jewish Holiday Year with Yoga,” at 5:30 p.m.
In this time of division and uncertainty within our Jewish world and beyond, end Shabbat with this gentle yoga practice. The session will close with Havdalah and the opportunity to speak, share and enjoy light refreshments.
The per person cost for Friday’s dinner is $20 for the community, $10 for Temple Beth-El members and free for children 18 and younger at tinyurl.com/Nov22Dinner. Register for the complimentary brunch at tinyurl.com/Nov23Brunch. Yoga, $25 for the community, is complimentary for Temple Beth-El members at tinyurl.com/Nov23Yoga.
