Marcy Stecker is a retired New York City principal and college adjunct professor at Adelphi University and City College. Having graduated with both a B.A. and an M.S. in education from Queens College, CUNY, her teaching career afforded her an opportunity to travel to many countries.
Following a trip to China, she became intrigued with the complex art of watercolor painting. Her training began at the China Institute in America where she learned the techniques of Chinese Watercolor.
Although her work responsibilities prevented her from completing her studies, she once again returned to painting following her retirement. Still fascinated with the water medium, she tried acrylics and watercolor, returning to her first love watercolor painting by enrolling in classes at the Great Neck Continuing Education Center at Cumberland, the Art League of Long Island, the Nassau Museum and the Hudson River Valley Workshop Center.
Her goal in painting is to combine the aspects of color, light, detail and movement to create a pleasing visual image that is ethereal but recognizable to the viewer. Allowing the watercolor paints to maintain their fluidity, the painting projects the impression of the images without specifically defining them.
The Art Exhibit will be at the Great Neck Library at 159 Bayview Ave. in Great Neck from Nov. 15 to Dec. 20.
