The National Public Radio Student Podcasting Contest awarded a Roslyn High School junior.
Sydney Spier is the third student from Roslyn High School to be recognized by the NPR contest, which garners more than 4,000 applicants nationwide. Only 60 high school students are honored during the contest.
Sydney Spier synthesized original interviews and academic research to piece together Long Island’s fragmented past with the Underground Railroad to create her original audio narrative, “The History Around Us: The Underground Railroad on Long Island.”
“Sydney went to great lengths to put together a polished narrative and meet the deadline,” said her teacher, Mr. Vogt. “The award is well-deserved and reflects her hard work, insight, and willingness to learn.”
