Throughout the school year, students at Herricks’ Center Street Elementary School display incredible motivation and dedication when it comes to lending a helping hand to those in need. Recently, the students enthusiastically joined the “Undy 500” donation challenge, an initiative aimed at supporting Hurricane Helene and Milton Relief efforts.
Partnering with The Great Kindness Challenge, the school’s Service Club adopted an elementary school in Asheville, North Carolina that was affected by the hurricane and asked the community to donate children’s underwear and socks that would be distributed to impacted families.
The students made posters and other materials to spread the word and highlighted the drive each day during morning announcements. As the final collecting was counted, the team was thrilled to have successfully reached their goal of 500 pairs to send to their adopted school!
The students then got to work packing up the donated items and preparing them for shipment to Asheville. But before they sealed the boxes, the students included personalized cards they had created expressing hope and friendship to the students and wishing them a speedy recovery from the storm damage.
