Students at Herricks’ Center Street Elementary School recently participated in a donation drive to aid families impacted by Hurricane Helene, successfully collecting 500 pairs of socks and underwear for children in Asheville, North Carolina.

As part of the “Undy 500” donation challenge, the school partnered with The Great Kindness Challenge and adopted an elementary school in Asheville that was heavily affected by the hurricane. The initiative aimed to provide essential clothing to children in need.

The Center Street Elementary School Service Club took the lead, creating posters and spreading the word through morning announcements. The school encouraged the community to donate new children’s socks and underwear, ultimately reaching their goal of 500 items.

Once the donations were collected, the students packed up the items and prepared them for shipment. Before sealing the boxes, each student included personalized cards with messages of hope and friendship, wishing the children in Asheville a speedy recovery from the storm’s aftermath.

The effort is part of an ongoing commitment at Center Street Elementary to foster a culture of kindness and community service among students.
