After decades of business, Syosset’s Hurricane Grill & Wings closed on Sunday.
“I have been lucky enough to have had business in the community for over 30 years,” managing partner Robert Engel said on his Instagram account.
Hurricane Grill is a national restaurant franchise that offers 35 flavors of wings and a variety of entrees, including fish and chips, burgers and sandwiches.
The franchise opened in 1995, and the Syosset location was one of four on Long Island. The remaining locations are in Happauge, Lindenhurst and Port Jefferson.
One Syosset worker, who had worked at the location for three years, said the franchise has consistently raised prices in recent years.
The franchise’s staple wings range from $9.99 to $25.99, according to its website.
“My partners and I want to say thank you,” Engel said in his Instagram post.
“We opened during a hurricane, two power outages, earthquake and barely survived the pandemic, thanks to you, Syosset,” he said.
The Syosset location hosted trivia nights, fantasy draft nights, themed happy hours and weekly brunches, according to its Instagram, @hurricanewings_syosset.
“Hurricane Grill has been a member of our Chamber and a fixture in the Syosset community for a number of years,” said Russell Green, the Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce president.
Green said retail and service industries are still experiencing hurt from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is unfortunate that they have had to close their doors,” Green said. “We wish everyone there the best in their future efforts.”
