Robert McEvoy of the Oyster Bay Water District has been elected to serve as the Long Island Water Conference’s new chairman. McEvoy has worked in the water industry for 23 years and has been one of the district’s commissioners since 2002.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have been given the opportunity to lead the Long Island Water Conference for 2025,” McEvoy said in a release. “The LIWC represents dozens of water providers throughout Long Island, all of which are determined to provide more than 3 million people with the high-quality water service they deserve. I am looking forward to advancing our practices throughout the next year.”
McEvoy has a long history of public service, both within and outside of the water industry. As a member of the state’s section of the American Water Works Association, he served as president of the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners Association.
McEvoy has been a volunteer member of the Oyster Bay Fire Department since 1975 and served as chief from 1986 to 1988, president from 1991 to 1992, and president of the Fifth Battalion Chiefs Organization in 2003.
McEvoy served as the Town of Oyster Bay comptroller from 2010 to 2016 and was a member of the state’s Government Finance Officers Association from 1989 to 2016.
