Hillside residents can find a wide variety of public programming, from informational events on taxes, health insurance, and government, to movies, bingo games, family-friendly crafts, and children’s events at their village’s public library this winter and spring.
Adult Programs and Events:
AARP Tax Aide: Mondays, from Feb. 10 – April 14, at 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m.
AARP-trained volunteers will prepare tax returns for low-to-moderate-income seniors in the All Purpose Room. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the library at 516 355-7850, x101 or x102.
Fri., Feb. 14, at 1 p.m.: Anyone but You (R Rated Movie). All Purpose Room
Tues., Feb. 18, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Health Insurance Application Assistance
Experts from the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) are offering help with the Medicaid application process through LDSS, Medicare Savings programs, and Medicare resources in the 1st Floor Modular Room. Call HWCLI for an appointment at 516-505-4426, or walk in with your questions.
Tues., Feb. 18, 6 p.m.: NYS Unclaimed Funds Workshop
New York State is holding billions of dollars in unclaimed funds, deposited by banks, insurance companies, businesses, and more. In the All Purpose Room, Leah Solomon of the New York State Comptroller’s office will discuss unclaimed funds and how to search, process, and claim money you may not even know you have.
Weds., Feb. 19, 6:30 p.m.: Mystery Book Club – All Her Little Secrets by Wanda Morris
The discussion will take place in the 1st Floor Modular Room. In this fast-paced thriller, Wanda M. Morris crafts a twisty mystery about a black lawyer who gets caught in a dangerous conspiracy after the sudden death of her boss.
Saturdays, from Feb. 22 to April 12, at 10:15 a.m.; 11:15 a.m.; 12:15 p.m.: Free VITA Tax Aide
Free assistance is available for people making $84,000 or less, who wish to have their taxes prepared by trained volunteers in the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program. Call the library at 516 355-7850, x101 or 102 to schedule an appointment.
Sun., Feb. 23, 12:30 p.m.: Winter Bingo
The library will offer a game of bingo in the All Purpose Room. Winners will win prizes!
Young Adult and Children Events
Fri., Feb. 14, 10:30a.m.: Play Hooray
Ages: 9 months – 5 years (with parent or caregiver). Stories, music, and movement activities with Mollie Mouse in the Children’s Room.
Sat., Feb. 15, 11 a.m.: P.I.E. Play, Imagine Explore.
Ages: 12 months- 5 years (with parent or caregiver) Play that promotes healthy development and learning in the Children’s Room. Your child will engage in interactive play & develop literacy skills through hands-on activities.
Tues., Feb. 18, 4 p.m.: Puzzle-mania Extravaganza
All Ages. In Celebration of National Puzzle Day, the library is hosting the following activities in the Children’s Room: Puzzle Racing (starts at 4:15pm), decorating pieces of a winter mural, a variety of puzzles to solve (Puzzles Galore), and a raffle for a puzzle themed prize basket, which all participants will be entered into.
Thurs., Feb. 20, 4:30 p.m.: Snowy Creations with Johnda Ferrari!
Ages: 7- 11 years. Come in from out of the cold and get ready for some cool snowy activities with Ms. Johnda in the All Purpose Room. Children will experiment in making different types of cold and gooey snow and take home a snow-themed craft.
