Residents have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted and expired prescription medications next month at the Syosset library. The “Shed the Meds” event is hosted by Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker and the Nassau County Police Department’s Second Precinct from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

In addition to prescription medications, residents may dispose of patches, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, drug samples and pet medications under the supervision of Second Precinct officers.

Please note that needles/sharps, aerosol cans, thermometers, ointments (liquid or lotion), hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, biohazardous materials and/or medications from businesses will not be accepted.

“Spring cleaning will soon be on many people’s minds, and one of the best ways to start is clearing our medicine cabinets of medications that are no longer useful or needed,” Drucker said in a release. “I am happy that our ongoing partnership with the Second Precinct gives Nassau residents a safe and convenient way to complete this task in a way that both protects the environment and prevents drug abuse and misuse in our community.”

Residents may contact the Second Precinct at 516-573-6200 or Drucker’s office at 516-571-6216 with questions.
