Mineola Public School high school senior Robert Ely was named a finalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship competition.

Robert is among approximately 15,000 students across the country to move on to the next phase of the scholarship competition.

The selection process for scholarship winners involves evaluating information about finalists obtained from students and their high schools. Included are the finalist’s academic record, PSAT/NMSQT scores, the student’s essay, demonstrated leadership and contributions to school and community activities and a school official’s written recommendation and characterization of the finalist.

National Merit Scholarship recipients will be announced beginning in March.
