Homicide
Police charged Jeremias Ferrufino-Rodriguez, 18, of Hempstead, on Saturday, March 1, with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for a man’s shotgun death, according to the Nassau County police.
Police said they responded to the intersection of West Graham Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard after the report of an unresponsive male.
When they arrived, officers found a male victim who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim, Jefferson J. Mancia-Fernandez, 19, of Hempstead, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, police said.
Police announced on Monday, March 3, that Ferrufino-Rodriguez had been arrested.
Four arrested in string of burglaries
Nassau County police arrested three Columbian men for four home burglaries in Muttontown and Old Westbury, according to police.
Police said the incidents occurred on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, and Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024. The men arrested allegedly entered all the homes by breaking rear windows and sliding glass doors when these homes were unoccupied during evening hours, police said.
While inside, they are suspected of ransacking multiple bedrooms in each house, resulting in the theft of jewelry, diamonds, gold, designer handbags, safes, and family heirlooms valued at over $250,000, according to police.
A multi-department investigation had been underway for about 2 1/2 months, police said.
David Fernando Moreno Hernandez, 26, of Newark, N.J., and Ivan Stewar Ramirez-Villalobos, 25, of Newark, N.J., were each charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, and Juan Pablo Orjuela-Saavedra, 23 of East Orange, New Jersey, was charged with second-degree burglary, police said.
Ramirez-Villalobos is being held on a pending residential burglary that took place in Livingston, N.J., in 2023, according to police.


Fatal fire
Police said a fire at 150 N. Hawthorne Street in North Massapequa left one person dead.
According to police, a 64-year-old female was removed from the residence and transported to a local area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The incident occurred on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 1:20 p.m., and police said an investigation was ongoing.
Man charged with attempted grand larceny
Police said 39-year-old Etienne Jackson of Menands was arrested on March 1 after an 84-year-old woman received a phone call from an unknown man who stated her grandson had been arrested and needed $9,800 to be bailed out of jail, according to police.
The woman, a Westbury resident, contacted police and detectives were at the scene when Jackson allegedly came to retrieve the money, police said.
Jackson was charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, police said.
Man charged with assault
Police said that a Hicksville man was charged on Monday, March 3 with an assault that occurred in Franklin Square.
Mandeep Singh, 30, was allegedly arguing with numerous people when he grabbed a chair and struck a 28-year-old male victim in the head, according to police.
Singh was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree assault.

Burglary
A burglary at 745 East Meadow Avenue, East Meadow was reported on Thursday, Feb. 27, according to police.
An unknown person entered the Speno Park Administration building, damaging several interior doors, police said. The suspect stole a Ryobi drill set, an estimated five master locks, and 10 keys before fleeing the scene.
Police said an investigation is ongoing.
Three men charged in string of burglaries
Police said three men have been charged in connection to burglaries that occurred in Garden City from Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 to Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.
Police said Sergio Rodriguez-Lopez, 36, of Flushing, and others not apprehended entered a Brook Street residence through a rear sliding door and took assorted jewelry and $1,000 on Dec. 10, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
On December 18, 2024, at 10:14 p.m., Rodriguez-Lopez, Adolfo Montes-Gomez, 40, of Garden City, and at least one other suspect broke the rear sliding door of a Pine Street residence and attempted to gain entry and remove items, according to police. Police said no proceeds were reported missing.
On December 20, 2024, at 11:23 p.m., Rodriguez-Lopez, Montes-Gomez, Brandon Montano, 29, of Flushing, Stephen Montenegro, 42, of Jamestown, and one outstanding suspect forced open a second-floor rear window of a Pine Street residence, and attempt to gain entry and remove property, according to police.
The four men were stopped by the NYPD on Feb. 27 for a vehicle and traffic law violation while returning to Flushing from Danbury, Conn, where they are also suspects in a burglary, police said.
The men were placed into custody and transported to Garden City for arrest processing.
Sergio Rodriguez-Lopez is charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, Adolfo Montes-Gomez is charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, and Brandon Montano and Stephen Montenegro are each charged with second-degree burglary, according to police.
Police said the men are part of the South American theft group, and multiple county departments are conducting ongoing investigations.
