LI Salty Kids Cove, a beloved children’s learning and activity center, has been nominated for the prestigious PSEG Small Business Star award. Recognized for its dedication to fostering creativity and education, the organization continues to make a lasting impact on local families. In this Q&A, we explore its journey and community influence.
What do you love about being in this business/being an owner?
I love nothing more than seeing all of the children of the community come together. Learning is achieved through socialization and pretend play. I love being an inclusive, sensory-friendly space for parents to come and bond, and making new parent friends while having a cup of coffee. We are happy to provide the community with a relaxing, clean and safe environment.
How do you feel your business impacts the local community?
Our business is unique in that it offers the community a place to go when the weather is too cold or raining. We saw a market since there was essentially nothing for toddlers to do in the area when it’s cold out. That’s where we come in! Our establishment offers activities and a safe sanctuary for the community. It’s like one big amazing playdate for children and adults!
How did PSEG Long Island’s Business First Program support you?
PSEG Long Island was an integral part of our business. They provided us with a year of generous credits to cover our energy bill. We are so grateful!
What role do you think small businesses play in promoting energy efficiency within the broader community?
Our establishment exclusively uses LED lighting allowing for a cleaner energy efficient environment. Additionally, we do not use plastic bags for retail sales. We encourage all of our customers to bring their own reusable bags.
How do you feel about being a Small Business Star?
I still can’t believe this is real! It’s been a whole year of fun with celebrations and learning. The amazing people of the community have contributed so much to our business and we are beyond grateful for this opportunity!
