The Katz Women’s Hospital at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center has been named a Center of Excellence by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology for the second time, according to a hospital press release.
Previously, the Katz Women’s Hospital was named Center of Excellence in 2020, two years after the distinction was first created.
“I am incredibly proud that Katz Women’s Hospital has once again earned the prestigious recertification as a SOAP Center of Excellence,” said Dr. Michael Gitman, senior vice president of Northwell Health and president of LIJ Medical Center.
SOAP’s Center of Excellence designation highlights a hospital’s commitment to providing the highest-quality obstetric anesthesia care.
The organization identifies institutions based on rigorous standards in obstetric anesthesia care. The criteria include personnel and staffing, equipment and protocols, simulation and team training, obstetric emergency management, cesarean delivery, labor analgesia care, implementation of recommendations and guidelines, and quality assurance and patient follow-up systems, according to Northwell’s press release.
“This prestigious recertification is a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit of our exceptional team,” said Dr/ Joshua Younger, director of obstetric anesthesia at LIJ Medical Center. “It reaffirms our dedication to providing collaborative, comprehensive, and patient-centered care for expectant mothers and their families. Our team of highly skilled anesthesiologists, obstetricians, PAs, nurses, and support staff work tirelessly together to ensure the safety and well-being of every mother and baby in our care.”
The Katz Women’s Hospital will be formally recognized at SOAP’s 57th annual meeting this May.
