Four chamber music ensembles from the Great Neck Public Schools performed in the eighth annual Long Island Regional Young Musicians Concert, sponsored by The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
This year’s concert was held at Great Neck South High School on March 6.
This regional competition for advanced high school musicians featured chamber music ensembles from five districts across Long Island.
Great Neck was represented by two ensembles from North High School and two ensembles from South High School.
Ensembles from North High are Su Qi Tian (violin), Ian Loo (violin) and Zi Lin Hu Yang (piano) performing “Trio for Two Violins and Piano in A minor, Op. 76” by Arnold Mendelssohn; and Julianna Miano (soprano), Nina Bikhman (soprano) and Taj Malhotra (piano) performing “Two Duets, Op. 10, No. 2, Tarantelle for Two Sopranos and Piano” by Gabriel Fauré.
Ensembles from South High are Hugh Choi (flute), Sarah Sun (alto saxophone) and Selena Lu (piano) performing “Trio No. 1 for Flute, Alto Saxophone and Piano” by Russell Peterson; and Michael Sun (Bb clarinet), Olivia Gu (Bb clarinet) and Kyle Lam (piano) performing “Concert Piece No. 2 in D minor, Op. 114 for Two Clarinets and Piano” by Felix Mendelssohn.
Ensembles featured in the Long Island Regional Concert were selected from a competitive pool of applicants based on recordings submitted through their school music department.
Participants are eligible for an opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center in the final Young Musicians Concert at Alice Tully Hall in May.
The North High chamber music program is coordinated by Pamela Levy, fine and performing arts department chair/vocal teacher, and Esther Noh, instrumental teacher.
The South High chamber music program is coordinated by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department chair/instrumental teacher, and Janine Robinson, vocal teacher.
