In his address to a joint session of Congress on March 4, President Trump declared, “Our goal is to get toxins out of our environment, poisons out of our food supply, and keep children healthy and strong.”
However, your article on the federal budget deal to cost Long Island $110m (March 20, 2026) blatantly demonstrates that he promises one thing while doing exactly the opposite.
Of the 31 programs earmarked by Congress in the 2024 budget bill that were canceled by DOGE, the EPA, and Donald Trump, 20 were for critical water treatment and sewer upgrades.
Of those 20, 6 were for water treatment upgrades for removal and mitigation of 1,4 Dioxane/PFAS (polyfluoroalkyls), also known as forever chemicals. PFAS are known cancer-causing carcinogens.
Of the 31 canceled programs, 12 were for sewage and wastewater treatment upgrades.
So, I would like to know: If Elon Musk and Donald Trump are canceling these critically needed water treatment programs, what are they doing to eliminate toxins from our water and keep our children and ourselves healthy?
