The Syosset-Woodbury Community Park is gearing up for a busy season with improvements to its baseball fields and a free family fair coming later this month.
As baseball and softball season kicks off, the Town of Oyster Bay unveiled two upgraded fields, with new turf playing areas and scoreboards.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato, and Nassau County Legislator Samantha Goetz announced the completion of the new baseball and softball turf on Thursday, April 3. The town said local baseball and softball leagues donated the new scoreboards.
“These wonderful improvements enhance the overall playing experience for our little leaguers and others who use these fields,” Saladino said. “These upgrades are being achieved in the most cost-effective way possible while bringing enjoyment to all who use them. We also thank the Syosset Girls Softball League and the Syosset Little League for their generous donation of the new scoreboards at this facility.”
But new fields aren’t the only amenities the park is set to receive.
On Saturday, April 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the town is hosting the free Family Fun Spring Weekend. Inflatable rides, games, and a petting zoo will be available for local residents.
“This amazing Spring Festival is the perfect way for families to come together and celebrate the season with bounce houses, games and adorable animals at the petting zoo,” Saladino said. “We’re excited to welcome residents for a fun-filled afternoon in the park as we embrace the beauty of spring with fantastic attractions and activities for all!”
The Syosset-Woodbury area has received upgrades to other outdoor spaces as well.
Earlier this year, the Nassau County Legislature approved $12 million for improvements to Stillwell Park and Preserve, a 287-acre park in Syosset. In addition to the county’s funding, state Assembly Member Jake Blumencranz secured a $100,000 grant to create a dog park in Stillwell.
Stillwell Park has outdoor trails, fields, and recreational facilities. The town said a dog park would enhance the space and offer a safe environment for pets and their owners.
