Celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer, New York Beach Club in Atlantic Beach is gearing up for an unforgettable sold-out season and its annual Memorial Day weekend opening celebrations.
“We’ve pumped up all of our entertainment and activities,” says Alex Jacobson, president of New York Beach Club. “There’s going to be some free giveaways this season. We’re really looking to make sure we give our members a memorable 10th year experience and remind them why they choose NYBC to be their summer home year after year.” .”
A family-owned business, New York Beach Club is a family-friendly private club where members can spend fun-filled days indulging in oceanfront dining, laying by the ocean waves or the heated pool, chilling at the tiki bar or stretching under palm trees practicing yoga on the beach.
“Between our palm trees, our white sand beaches, our eight acres of oceanfront property, it’s really a private experience,” says Jacobson.
Last year, New York Beach Club hired Troon, a leader in golf and club-related leisure and hospitality services, to help manage the club.
“Being part of their network allows us to take advantage of their resources and the best practices in hospitality, when it comes to operating a club, making sure the members are happy, and getting what it is they see of value,” Jacobson says.
One of the largest hospitality managers in the world, Troon has about 800 clubs around the country, as well as in other countries.
“We wanted to get our members more benefits and Troon manages clubs around the world, including a lot of golf and country clubs,” Jacobson says. “So now our members can get benefits of being able to play golf in different places around the world in the off-season.”
Like A Resort
The private eight-acre setting and personalized service at New York Beach Club, which includes valet parking and staff bringing lounge chairs and umbrellas to the beach, give members the feel of being at a resort.
“We try to take care of everything for our members where they can come and enjoy their day,” Jacobson says. “We provide them chairs and umbrellas. We run food and beverages to them where they are on the property. It’s like going on a vacation every time you show up to New York Beach Club.”
The expansive private waterfront means you’re not sitting on top of everyone else on a crowded beach.
“This is the best way to the beach,” Jacobson says. “We roll out those oceanfront carpets for you. We bring out chairs and umbrellas and set you up. It’s 100 yards to your oceanfront oasis. You have a cabana crew asking you what you would like, whether it’s for lunch or an ice-cold beverage: we’ll deliver it to you wherever you are on the property. It’s really a luxury lifestyle that we provide.”
Live entertainment is always a hit at New York Beach Club.
“We have over 50 events each summer. Pretty much every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we have live entertainment,” says Jacobson, adding that the dance floor is a popular spot where members get to break some impressive moves.
New York Beach Club also boasts a jam-packed social calendar, with an endless array of activities, from beach yoga to bingo, card games, basketball, beach volleyball, oceanfront playground, mahjong, arts and crafts, and beach soccer.
“People love to be able to come, make friends, and enjoy our specialty theme nights, whether it be lobster bakes or prime rib nights,” Jacobson says. “We do a Fourth of July celebration on the beach and enjoy a fireworks show right off the shore the weekend of Fourth of July.”
Dining at New York Beach Club is another part of the indulgent experience.
There’s a full menu of salads, wraps and a brick oven wood fire pizza over outdoors for lunch and a great assortment of beach drinks, including pina colada, daquiris, mojitos and summer ales. Thursdays are pizza and wine night, with pizza made in the club’s outdoor wood burning stove.
And throughout the season, there are a half dozen or so special themed night buffets, including Father’s Day barbecue, Hawaiian night, and white party.
“We have it all, from our tiki bar to our lunch menu,” Jacobson says. “At nighttime, though, we switch gears to offer a fine dining oceanfront experience complete with white tablecloths, where you could literally sit with your feet in the sand between palm trees.”
After 6 p.m., the restaurant and bar opens to the public, Thursday to Sunday.

Personalized approach
At eight acres, New York Beach Club is one of the largest clubs in the area.
“We have the least amount of members on the largest property size, making you feel like you’re not on top of everyone,” says Jacobson, noting that the club has approximately 1,000 members and annual memberships range from $2,000 to $20,000.
Members can choose from three different options: lockers, shower lockers and cabanas. There are limited memberships available for NYBC’s 10th anniversary season.
“All of our shower lockers and cabanas have hot and cold running showers,” Jacobson says. “Some of them have mini refrigerators. We provide tables and chairs at all the units, so you don’t have to bring your own furnishings.”
Cabana crew staff are assigned to New York Beach Club members for the whole season, no matter what level of membership you purchase.
“You get to know your cabana crew staff,” Jacobson says. “You can text them when you’re on your way. They’ll have your setups waiting for you. They’ll have your iced coffee the way you like it. They help put in your lunch order the way you like it. It’s really a personalized touch.”
The personalized treatment is very welcoming to club members.
“It’s a nice feeling when you show up and you have a place to park with your name on it, because we do have reserved and VIP parking, as well as valet parking,” Jacobson says.
Something for Everyone
New York Beach Club is divided into four separate courts.
For adults only, A court is located near the bar and restaurant for those who really enjoy entertainment and more action. B court is for families, complete with a playground on the beach, basketball court, volleyball court, beach soccer and mommy’s helpers.
“They do activities for families with children all day on Saturday and Sunday, from arts and crafts, to slime making, to watching their children on the playground,” Jacobson says.
C Court has a kiddie pool and splash park and a large, heated pool with adult swim hours times 3 times a day.
Delta or D court is for the crowd looking for a peaceful, relaxing day.
“They’re reading books. They’re playing mahjong. They’re coming for more of the peace and solitude,” Jacobson says.
The different courts offer members a wide choice of activities in four unique settings.
“If you join our club and you want more of a singles and active scene, you should go to A court,” Jacobson says. “If you have a family with kids 12 and under, you’re in B court. If you love doing laps and being at the pool and want to take advantage of the water aerobics, you’re in our pool court. If you’re just looking to come to the beach, lay out and read a book, Delta court’s for you.”
Members can bring guests to the club all summer.
“The nice thing about our club is we treat your guests as if they were members,” Jacobson says. “We’ll provide a chair and umbrella for them; we’ll serve them food and beverage services all day.”
Members can host private corporate events, bridal showers, bar mitzvahs, birthday celebrations, weddings at the club, typically after club hours.
“We just do one at a time,” Jacobson says. “They’re exclusive. They’re private. Their guests enjoy the most beautiful sunset views. Every evening the sun sets to our west and we can see it down the lines of the beach and the ocean and the colors of the sky change with this palm tree background. It really is quite beautiful.”
You don’t expect to see palm trees in New York, but at New York Beach Club, you get used to them pretty quickly.
“We’ve been bringing in palm trees to Atlantic Beach for 10 years now,” Jacobson says. “When you come to our place, you automatically feel like you’re in Florida or Aruba or some exotic destination.”
And the season at the club doesn’t just end on Labor Day.
“We actually open up weekends in September until the holidays as well,” Jacobson said. “So, if you’re a member of our club and rejoin for the next season, you get an extra month of the season. We’re the only club I know that does that.”
