Shame on you, Great Neck Plaza parking!
On Friday, Feb. 1, one of the most frigid days we’ve had in decades, I parked my car on North Station Plaza and paid for one hour of parking.
I guess I lost track of time and came out 5 to 10 minutes too late. There was a $20 ticket on my windshield.
I’ve been in Great Neck more than 40 years. I’ve watched more and more stores close and remain empty, year after year, and I hear so many people say that the Village of Great Neck Plaza has become unwelcome to shoppers.
I drive down Plandome Road in Manhasset and Main Street in Port Washington, and there are virtually no empty storefronts. Business there is booming.
I’ve watched—and continue to watch—cars double park, or make U-turns, on Middle Neck Road with impunity.
Yet, on a day when the “real feel” temperature was less than 5 degrees, a meter maid wrote me a parking ticket.
Great Neck: Put your manpower to work more efficiently; ticket people who endanger others in crosswalks, make U-turns or double park.
Welcome shoppers to Great Neck—don’t turn them away and invite them to shop elsewhere.
