See Stepping Stones Lighthouse Up Close

LighthouseTour_060116.AThe Great Neck Historical Society will be offering Stepping Stones Lighthouse boat tours for the first time this summer on July 10 and Aug. 21.

The excursions will offer a great opportunity to see the lighthouse up close and learn more about it and the surrounding shores, including discussion about the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges, Fort Schuyler and Totten, the historic homes of the Barstow House, Chrysler Mansion, Cohan House, Russian Mansion and the Brickman Estate, as well as Execution Light, Hart, Rat and City Islands, the Coast Guard Station, Little Neck Bay, Eastchester Bay and the Devil’s Stepping Stones.

Two boat tours will depart each day at 1 and 2:30 p.m., and seating is extremely limited. Tickets will cost $40 for Great Neck Historical Society members in good standing and $50 for general admission.

An estimated $4 million is needed to preserve the lighthouse, and all funds raised during the two days will go to support the Stepping Stones Lighthouse, which is a nonprofit, so ticket prices are deductible to the extent allowed by law.

To purchase tickets, go to Great Neck House at 14 Arrandale Ave. or mail a check made out to the Great Neck Historical Society with a self-addressed stamped envelope to Great Neck House, Stepping Stones Boat Tour, 14 Arrandale Ave., Great Neck, NY 11024.

The boat will leave from Steppingstone Park and your ticket is your admission into the park. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. If you wish to become an official sponsor, call Historical Society President Alice Kasten at 516-466-8954.
