The South High School Robotics Team, Rebellion, recently competed at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition World Championship in St. Louis, MO.

The team qualified for the championship after winning the Chairman’s Award at the Finger Lakes Regional in Rochester, NY.

The World Championship was attended by more than 40,000 students from 40 countries. After four rigorous days of competition, the team won the prestigious Underwriters Laboratories Industrial Safety Award. Safety Captains Avery Strongin and Clara Goldberger were named Safety Stars of the Day for their leadership in promoting team safety.

South was the only Nassau County team at the world event and the only Long Island team awarded a trophy. Co-advisor John Motchkavitz, business/technology department head, said the team was “awesome and represented South High with pride.” Matthew Corrigan, the business/technology teacher, is also an advisor.
