The pride of Port Washington was alive on Saturday at the homecoming football game. A large crowd gathered to watch the Port Washington Vikings take on the tough Valley Stream Central Eagles. Lead by quarterback Jacob Kaypour, the team won a close game and were able to just oust Valley Stream by 1 point with a 13-12 victory over the Eagles. Wide receiver Ari Schachter (#13) scored a touchdown early in the game and the team kept the pressure on the Eagles throughout the second half.

Weber 7th grade football coach Thomas Barbara was on hand to take in the festivities. He said, “The turnout today is great. There are so many people here. The Vikings are giving it their all and playing an amazing game. Coach [Jamel] Ramsey and [Assistant Coach Joe] Simeone and all the coaches worked hard during the off season and the team is well prepared for the rest of the season.” Other assistant coaches are Widmaier Aime and Joe Botti.

Hall of famers were introduced in a half-time ceremony.

The Football Booster Club was supporting the team by selling food. Nancy Haberman was cheering on her son Jack Haberman (#40), who plays linebacker. She said, “What a great showing we had today and a win.”

Maryanne Dalimonte (mother of #41, James Dalimonte) added, “We work to help raise money for the team to make sure the boys have practice gear, including shirts and shorts, to help provide healthy snacks for them after games and much more. Today, we’re thrilled to have members of the Alumni Booster Club here as well as Board of Education member Beth Weisberg.”

The Portette Moms were working hard as well at the concession next to the Boosters selling baked goods and T-shirts in support of the cheerleaders, who offered a stupendous halftime show that had the crowd smiling and ready for more.

The Vikings will undoubtedly be ready for the next game with the incredible support of Port Washington, the Boosters and their dedicated coaches.
